University of Washington Virology Department

The Virology Department at the University of Washington in Seattle is one of the most renowned institution doing research on the subject of herpes.  Below are some links to some of the best herpes research studies and a summary of findings.

UW did a study on How Well Acyclovir works to reduce virus shedding.  In this study, patients taking daily Acyclovir were amazingly able to reduce the percentage of days they were shedding the virus to less than 1% of the time!  So suppressive therapy along with the regular use of condoms is extremely effective in reducing the risk of transmission.
